Trail Angels are people that go out of their way to help hikers.  Whether it is setting out gallon jugs of water in dry areas, refilling coolers full of cold soda, sitting in gaps for hours waiting for hungry hikers to feed, or driving stinky hikers into town, all is much appreciated and talked about for days.

This was the case before heading to Bland, VA. It was going to be a 20 mile day, but on mile 16, I arrived to my group with smiles on every face.  On a sign was a phone number for hikers to call if showers, hot meals, or shelter was needed.   Shortly, a member of Burke's Garden Lutheran Church arrived to pick me and 4 other hikers up into town.  They fed us an all-you-can-eat buffet at KFC, showered us at the local YMCA, let us stay at their church for the night, fed us homemade pancakes for breakfast, and shuttled us back.
